Anne Silverstrand Forest makes naive and mystical portraits in and on different carriers. Strongly influenced by Orthodox iconography, her characters are enigmatic; absently present. She is interested in unveiling their gazes, revealing histories, hierarchies and the character’s emotional world.
About her solo presentation at Art Rotterdam :
”We make our debut at Art Rotterdam (Booth G9) with a remarkable solo presentation by Anne Silverstrand Forest. Alongside exceptional recent works, we will unveil new pieces created exclusively for their premiere at the fair.
“As I create my paintings, drawings, and everything in between, the news is always on. As a first-generation daughter of American emigrants, I’ve watched with dismay as my homeland spreads its greed and arrogance across the world. In recent years, my obsession, shame, and disgust have only deepened, mirroring global developments. This culminates in a need to paint fire, grinning dogs, and women who have had enough. At a time when all kingdoms face their own mortality, how can any artist not reflect the urgency of this era?” – Anne Silverstrand Forest March 2025
