Sara van Vliet’s large-scale paintings depict a banality of life and an absurdity of our existence. The everyday takes shape of the remains of conviviality and being together; what do left behind coffee cups and beer bottles say about these shared moments?
Having a background as a top athlete, Van Vliet puts her physical energy into her large canvases as she experiments with plaster, paint and glue. Contrasts build between the more raw plaster and soft overspray. Using her fingers, she quickly draws in drying plaster, in which used glasses and notes and a crooked table become textured and lively.
