Van Gogh in Antwerp. The 140th anniversary of Vincent van Gogh’s time in Antwerp.
140 years ago, Van Gogh spent three formative months in Antwerp. The city, his fellow students, and the quiet academy garden gave him fresh energy and sharpened his artistic vision. For The Poet’s Garden, we return to that sense of inspiration: the garden as a place of reflection, imagination, and renewal.
The exhibition brings together new interpretations of nature and inner landscapes by Eden Berger, Renée Bus, Eline De Clercq, Ron Dirven, Anne Silverstrand Forest, Marte de Jager, Tosja van Lieshout, Marc Mulders, and Reinoud van Vught.
Each artist approaches the theme of the garden in their own way. And, as always, it is up to the viewer to choose which path to enter by, and which way to leave. The Poet’s Garden is an invitation to lose yourself in paint—to look, as Vincent did, with attention to everything that grows and blooms, from the brightest roses to the quietest undergrowth. And then, to see the world with new eyes.
A special thank you to curator Eva Geene (Van Gogh Air) for the sublime selection and the creation of a truly outstanding exhibition — a highlight of this year’s program.
