Ingrid van der Hoeven

Ingrid van der Hoeven is a sculptor who makes work that is layered; literally. Glued together female figures are composed of sheets, in which with saw cuts they are ‘dressed’. The glue seam between layers of different materials and densities remains visible, accentuating the women’s curves, energy and softness. Using her own body in photographs as a building block for poses, she looks for ways to bring in her own identity as a Dutch artist with a mixed cultural background.
